Opening of the new stretch of line to Riedberg
Since Sunday, 12 December 2010, the U8 and U9 lines have run via Riedberg, thus linking Germany’s largest urban development area to the Frankfurter light railway network.
The Riedberg stretch of line is some four kilometres long. It involved the construction of two new stations, seven bridges and 24 level crossings.
Trial and training runs had been taking place on the new line since the end of October, involving the training of 450 drivers from the VGF company train driving school in the use of the line.
Green travel in Frankfurt: simultaneously with the trial runs, over 5,600 trees and bushes were planted along the new line. In addition, environmentally friendly green track has been laid along more than half of its length.
